Big second half propels West Marshall to victory

GILBERT – Trailing by seven at the break, the West Marshall boys basketball team needed a big rally against Gilbert on Saturday.

Duncan Ferch scored 15 points and had five rebounds, four steals and two assists, while Christian Vis added 10 points and a team-high seven boards as the Trojans rallied to down Gilbert on the road, 47-38, in non-conference action.

West Marshall (8-2) outscored Gilbert 19-6 in the third quarter to take control of the game and then finished off the Tigers with a 15-point final frame.

The Trojans are back in action Tuesday at home against rival East Marshall. That game will tip off at 7:45 p.m.

Colo-NESCO 65, East Marshall 47

LE GRAND – Brandyn Niemeyer found his shooting touch early pouring in a game-high 30 points to lead Colo-NESCO past East Marshall 65-47 in nonconference play Saturday.

The Royals stretched a three-point lead to 38-21 by halftime, outscoring the Mustangs 22-8 in the second quarter on the way to their third straight victory.

Colo-NESCO continued to keep the Mustangs at bay after halftime widening the margin to 52-33 entering the fourth.

Jake Webb tallied 16 points for the Royals, while Ben Terrones paced East Marshall with 14 and Mitch Berry added 10.

The Mustangs (1-8, 1-6) face rival West Marshall on the road Tuesday in NICL West Division play, while the Royals (7-4, 6-2) start a six-game homestand against Northeast Hamilton Monday.


Colo-NESCO 49, Janesville 48, OT

Back in his first game from injury, Webb led the Royals past Janesville with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 49-48 overtime thriller Friday. Niemeyer added 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as Colo-NESCO rallied from a 17-point first half deficit. Cole Osbun (eight points, five rebounds) and Adam Lytle (six points, four rebounds) also helped in the victory.
