GIRLS BASKETBALL: No. 9 Royals run rampant on visiting Raiders, 52-21

COLO – Shayla Dean scored a game-high 14 points and Madison Eley added 13 as the Class 1A No. 9-ranked Colo-NESCO girls’ basketball team drubbed Dunkerton, 52-21, in Friday’s Iowa Star Conference contest.

Colo-NESCO scored the game’s first 16 points, led 18-1 after the opening period and 27-1 at the half en route to a seventh straight win.

Shelby Anthony chipped in nine points and Madison Farren had eight for the Royals (13-2, 10-1). Dean racked up six steals, while Eley had four assists.

Alecia Kimball paced Dunkerton (6-6, 5-4) with seven points.

Colo-NESCO’s five-game homestand continues with Monday’s non-conference clash with Ankeny Christian Academy. North Tama comes to Colo on Tuesday.

Northeast Hamilton 59, GMG 30

GARWIN – Four players scored in double figures as Northeast Hamilton handed GMG a 59-30 defeat in Iowa Star action.

Jenn Jeffers led the Trojets (3-9, 2-8) with 16 points, Sarah Elm had 14, Molly Greenfield 11 and Jenn Willems 10.

Olivia Barritt, Caitlin Appelgate and Sara Hinson scored seven points apiece to lead GMG (0-13, 0-10). Cheyenne Wurr chipped in five points, while Barritt’s six rebounds led the team.

North Tama 55, CAL 29

TRAER – Allison Zobel made four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 20 points and Josie Youel’s double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds helped North Tama take care of CAL, 55-29, in Iowa Star play.

Zobel added seven steals and six rebounds for the Redhawks (5-8, 5-5). Shayla Kopriva tallied nine points.

Karter Miller led CAL (1-11, 0-10) with 14 points in its seventh loss in a row.

South Hardin 50, BCLUW 45

CONRAD – South Hardin outscored BCLUW 26-13 in the second half to overtake the Comets for an NICL West win.

Olivia Callaway led BCLUW (1-12, 0-9) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Mallory Vawter and Sarah McCoy both added six points, while Kodi Marks had five points and eight boards. Nicolette Simpson also had five points.
