Kalin, Keitel help UNI corral MVC road win

PEORIA, Ill. – Jacqui Kalin scored 23 points and Jen Keitel had a career-high 19 as the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team won its second straight Missouri Valley Conference road game, beating Bradley 77-72 on Friday night.

The Panthers (8-9, 3-2) led by as many as 10 points in the second half but had to withstand the Bradley comeback as sparked by Catie O’Leary. The junior scored a season-high 28 points, including back-to-back buckets to cut Northern Iowa’s 71-61 lead to just five with 1:05 remaining.

Kalin made all four of her free-throw attempts inside the final minute to help UNI keep the Braves (7-9, 1-4) at bay.

Northern Iowa shot 56.3 percent from the field in the first half and finished 30-for-56 (53.6 percent) for the game. Brooke Brown chipped in with 11 points while Jess McDowell made two 3-pointers for six points.

O’Leary shot 11-for-18 with four 3-pointers and nine rebounds. Katie Yohn had 10 points and 10 boards off the bench, while Kelsey Budd scored 13 points for the Braves.
