GIRLS BASKETBALL: Royals ready for ranked conference run-in with Meskwaki
COLO – Madison Eley matched her career-high with 19 points in the first half and finished with a career-best 25, leading the Class 1A No. 9-ranked Colo-NESCO girls’ basketball team to a 63-14 rout of GMG in Iowa Star Conference play Friday.
Eley made all of her four 3-pointers in the first half, when the Royals (18-2, 14-1) sprinted out to a 43-6 lead. Caitlyn Riese added 16 points and seven rebounds, Shelby Anthony chipped in seven points and Madison Farren had six points and eight boards for C-N.
Shayla Dean contributed four points, seven assists and six steals as Colo-NESCO won its 12th straight.
GMG (1-16, 1-13) got a team-leading six points from Caitlin Appelgate. Olivia Barritt added four points, and Mikaella Koster and Codi Groth added two apiece.
GMG goes on the road Tuesday to face North Tama, while Colo-NESCO meets 8th-ranked Meskwaki in the game to determine the Iowa Star Conference championship.
South Hardin 46, East Marshall 35
LE GRAND – Claire Damon scored a career-high 17 points, Kayla Prosser added 11, and South Hardin notched a 46-35 win over East Marshall in NICL West Division play.
Sabrina DeHerrera added seven points for the Tigers (6-10, 4-7), who play today at South Hamilton.
Ashley Allen tallied 13 points to go with six rebounds for East Marshall (2-16, 1-11), which suffered its eighth straight loss. Kaite Roseland had eight points to go with team-highs of 10 rebounds and five steals.
The Mustangs return to action Tuesday at BCLUW.
