BIG FOUR WOMEN’S HOOPS: Drake snaps six-game skid; Creighton sinks Panthers

DES MOINES – Sophomore Kyndal Clark had 20 points and hit some clutch free throws for the Drake women’s basketball team on Friday night at the Knapp Center.

The Bulldogs shot 52 percent in the first half and led by 13 at the break before holding off a late Bradley rally in a 66-62 win.

It was the first Missouri Valley Conference win for the Bulldogs, who also got seven steals from Clark.

Clark hit four free throws down the stretch and Morgan Reid notched her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Cara Lutes had nine points off the bench, while Alyssa Marschner added eight assists.

Bradley sophomore Shronda Butts, who played at Des Moines East, had 29 points to lead the Braves in a losing effort.

The Bulldogs continue their homestand with a game against Northern Iowa on Sunday at the Knapp Center. Tip off is set for 2:07 p.m.

Creighton 54, UNI 40

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women’s basketball team broke open a tight game with an 11-2 run to open the second half and that proved to be the difference in a 54-40 victory at the Sokol Arena on Friday night.

The Panthers sruggled from the floor in the loss, making just 24 percent of their shots and no one reached double figures.

Jacquin Kalin and Hannah Schonhardt led the way with nine points each. Schonhardt also finished with nine rebounds, while Kalin added eight boards. Kalin was just 2-of-14 from the floor.
