PREP BASKETBALL: No. 10 Redhawks hold off Gladbrook-Reinbeck
REINBECK – All five of North Tama’s starters scored at least eight points and the Class 1A No. 10 Redhawks used a second-quarter surge to scoot past Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 52-39, in a non-conference clash here Saturday.
North Tama (18-1) edged out to a 27-19 halftime lead and kept the Rebels (12-4) at arm’s reach for the remainder.
The Redhawks were led by Mitchell Boerm with 15 points, while Dalton Hulme and Nolan Hefty had 10 points apiece. Jacob Wrage added nine points and Brent Billerbeck had eight as North Tama claimed its eighth straight win.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck, fresh off of Friday’s pivotal NICL West Division win at West Marshall, was paced by Zach Pierce’s 11 points. Jacob Smoldt had 10 points and Chase Clark added six for the Rebels.
North Tama and Gladbrook-Reinbeck met twice last season in Traer with the Redhawks winning the regular-season pairing. G-R turned the tables in the district semifinals and eventually reached the substate round before falling short against Iowa Mennonite.
Both the Rebels and Redhawks align in 1A’s District 8 this season, too.
North Tama will look to clinch at least a share of the Iowa Star Conference championship with Monday’s home game against Dunkerton, and GMG visits Traer on Tuesday. Gladbrook-Reinbeck hosts South Tama Tuesday and East Marshall Friday to round out NICL West play.
AGWSR 67, Grundy Center 43
ACKLEY – Josh Bagley had 24 points and six assists to lead AGWSR past Grundy Center, 67-43, in Friday’s NICL West action.

REINBECK – Emily Snider scored a game-high 18 points to go with five steals as the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ basketball team got past neighboring North Tama, 61-53, in a non-conference contest Saturday.
The Rebels pulled ahead at the onset and held off the Redhawks the rest of the way, leaving both teams at 7-11 overall this season.
Erin Wentzien added 14 points for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, while Taylor Flamme had nine points and five steals. Britney Keller and Nicole Adair both pulled down eight rebounds to lead G-R, which hosts NICL West Division foes South Tama Tuesday and East Marshall Friday.

Breann Bader added 14 points and Payton Hilton had 13 for the Knights (10-8).
Grundy Center 46, AGWSR 38
ACKLEY – Heather Hook’s double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds helped the Class 1A No. 7-ranked Grundy Center girls survive AGWSR’s second-half comeback for a 46-38 NICL West win Friday.
Sam Meyers added 14 points, while Ally Jansen chipped in seven points off the bench in the fifth straight win for the Spartans (15-3, 11-1). Katie Lindeman added four points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Jessica Ackerson had seven assists and four steals in the win.
AGWSR (11-6, 9-3) had a six-game win streak snapped despite outscoring Grundy Center 24-14 in the second half. It just wasn’t enough to account for a 32-14 halftime deficit.
