SPORTS SHORTS: Little League registration is online

The Marshalltown Little League has online registration available for the upcoming season.

Interested baseball players age 5-14 can go online to to sign up to play and learn the game. The season runs from early April through the end of June.

Cost is $75 for players age 5-8 and $100 for ages 9-14. There is a $25 late fee for registering after Feb. 1.

MHS JV matmen crown six champs

WEST DES MOINES – The Marshalltown junior varsity wrestling team crowned six champions at the West Des Moines Valley Tournament on Saturday.

Bracket champions for the Bobcats were: Jordan Paone (132 pounds), Josh Sowers (132), Austin Baker (145), Josh Edel (145), Peyton Williams (152) and Richard McDonald (160).

Second-place finishes went to Doston Harrelson (106), Ryan Bitker (106), Oswaldo Rodriguez (113), Mitch O’Hare (126), Arturo Mujica (138) and Cody Mast (182).

Dodgers edge MHS JV girls by three

FORT DODGE – The Marshalltown junior varsity girls’ basketball team was edged 36-33 by Fort Dodge in Friday’s CIC Northern Division clash.

Emily Rebik scored 11 points to lead the Bobcats (5-13), while Lexi Vaughn chipped in with nine and Molly Major had eight.

MHS returns to action Tuesday at Ankeny.

Frosh Bobcat girls top Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE – Ellyn Boland and Rachel Whaley scored nine points apiece to lead the Marshalltown freshman girls’ basketball team to a 39-34 victory over Fort Dodge here Friday.

Ruth Boland added six points, Courtney Schmidt had five and Tabby Steffensen four for MHS.
