Helen Stayskal, 92, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center, in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Helen A. Stayskal was born in Toledo, Iowa, June 7th, 1920, to Joseph Paul Kunc and Magadalene Rebik. She attended both public and St. Patrick Catholic Schools in Tama. After high school graduation, she taught country school for 9 years at Otter Creek and Carroll Townships. During summers she worked for Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. Helen and 6 other gals lived on A Avenue and had yearly family reunions up until recently. She was united in marriage to Edward Charles Stayskal on May 21, 1946, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church east of Toledo by Reverend John P. Chicak. Later she and her husband moved to St. Louis where he attended Logan Chiropractic College. While there, they worked for Reinhart Catering Corporation. After Edward’s graduation, Helen was office assistant, laundry aide, x-ray technician, and homemaker. She enjoyed dancing, baking, fishing, and playing cards. She played bridge in numerous clubs and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Chapter of the Local VFW. Helen was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church since 1961, and an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
Helen is survived by her two sons; Gary (Kathy) Stayskal of Emporia, KS, Greg (Marion) Stayskal of Grand Rapids, MI, three grandchildren; Breanna Stayskal of Grand Rapids, MI, Megan (Eric) Hess of Pittsboro, NC, Nick Stayskal of Decorah, IA and a brother; Bernard (Jan) Kunc of Kimberling City, MO. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward, her parents, a brother; Lester Kunc, and two sisters Mildred Dostal and Pauline Phipps.
