SPORTS SHORTS: Ames takes down MHS JV girls

The Marshalltown junior varsity girls’ basketball team fell 34-25 to visiting Ames in Friday’s CIC Northern Division game at the Roundhouse.

Molly Major led the Bobcats (5-14) with seven points, while Karli McClure had six and Kali Banks five.

Marshalltown is back in action next Friday at Mason City.

Bobcat sophomore boys fall to Ames

Ames defeated the Marshalltown sophomore boys’ basketball team 73-50 on Friday night in CIC Northern Division action at Lenihan Intermediate School.

Brandin Chaloupek led the Bobcats (2-16, 0-4) with 15 points in the loss. Grant Thimesch added 10 points, and Michael Schrempf and Jordan Smith both chipped in six points.

Marshalltown returns to action next Friday with a conference game at Mason City.

Little League registration is online

The deadline for registering online for the Marshalltown Little League has passed, but is still open.

Interested baseball players age 5-14 can go online to to sign up to play and learn the game. The season runs from early April through the end of June.

Cost is $75 for players age 5-8 and $100 for ages 9-14. There is a $25 late fee for registering after Feb. 1.
