Two Redhawks headed to Upper Iowa

FAYETTE – The number of North Tama High School graduates on the Upper Iowa University football team will double in the fall.

Redhawk seniors Nolan Hefty and Jacob Wrage were a part of UIU’s 36-man recruiting class, the NCAA Division II program announced Wednesday.

Hefty is a 6-foot-4 linebacker who led all of Class A with 182 tackles this fall, while Wrage, North Tama’s left-handed quarterback, was tops in Class A in total offense after passing for 2,281 yards and rushing for 652 more. Both were first-team Iowa Newspaper Association all-state selections after helping the Redhawks to a 10-2 campaign.

Hefty’s older brother Lucas is a sophomore tight end for the Peacocks, and James Weida is a junior defensive back. Lucas Hefty had 34 catches for 400 yards and eight touchdowns this fall. He was the Peacocks’ fourth-leading receiver and second-leading scorer but only played in the first six games. Weida did not play after transfering in from Ellsworth Community College.
