Mustangs dropped in regular-season finale
LE GRAND – McCoy Matthias scored a season-high 21 points to lead Denver to a 68-46 victory over host East Marshall in a cross-NICL boys’ basketball contest Thursday night.
Mitchell Schumacher added 18 points for the Cyclones (5-14) and Austin Buhrow had nine. Denver led 18-8 after the first quarter and managed to hold off the Mustangs the rest of the way.
Walker Steward scored 18 points to lead East Marshall (3-18), which suffered its fourth consecutive loss to close the regular season. Josh Wilson added 12 points and four rebounds, Ben Terrones had eight points, and Nate DeBondt chipped in four points and four boards.
The Mustangs’ next court date will be Monday in the first round of Class 2A District 6 play. East Marshall goes on the road to face a Dike-New Hartford (13-9) team that defeated the Mustangs by 25 in a regular-season meeting.
