Don Bosco downs GMG in Iowa Star boys finale

GILBERTVILLE – One night after enduring overtime, the GMG boys’ basketball team played its Iowa Star Conference finale at Don Bosco.

The Dons’ Ben Rottinghaus scored a game-high 15 points and led a balanced attack, downing GMG 56-42 on Saturday night.

Travis Havel added 10 points, Tyler Backes had nine, and Connor Weber and Brandon Zumbach chipped in seven points apiece in the regular season finale for Don Bosco (10-10, 9-8).

The Dons pulled away with a 19-9 third-quarter advantage.

Bridger Claassen and Chad Plaehn contributed 10 points apiece to lead GMG (11-10, 9-7). Luke Petty added nine points, Brock Fisher had six points and five rebounds, and Blake Warren had four points and a team-high eight boards for the Wolverines.

GMG will play one last make-up game Monday at Cedar Valley Christian in Shellsburg, and the Wolverines play their Class 1A district opener Thursday at Colo-NESCO.
