Spartans ward off Dunkerton; Royals top Hawks
GRUNDY CENTER – Katie Lindeman scored a career-high 21 points and Class 1A No. 6 Grundy Center held off Dunkerton for a 56-36 victory in Tuesday’s Region 3 quarterfinal round.
The visiting Raiders trailed by just eight, 38-30, going into the fourth quarter before the Spartans (19-3) outscored them 18-6 to put the game away.
Sam Meyers contributed 18 points, Riley Ackerman had nine and Heather Hook six as Grundy Center logged its ninth win in a row. The Spartans will host Tripoli (12-11) in Friday’s regional semifinals after the Panthers edged Kee, Lansing 40-39.
No. 13 Marquette Catholic (14-6) and Central, Elkader (12-9) face off in the other semifinal tilt.
Dunkerton (10-14) was led by Alecia Kimball with 15 points.
Colo-NESCO 46, Lynnville-Sully 35
COLO – Class 1A No. 7 Colo-NESCO edged out to a 27-17 halftime lead and kept Lynnville-Sully at bay the rest of the way for a 46-35 victory in Tuesday’s Region 5 girls’ basketball quarterfinal.
Madison Farren had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Royals (21-2), who won their 15th straight. Shayla Dean had a double-double of 10 points and 10 steals as well as four assists.
Haley Stoeffler tallied six points, Shelby Anthony and Caitlyn Riese had five apiece, and Madison Eley was limited to four points. Riese chalked up eight rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots, while Eley contributed five boards and five steals for Colo-NESCO.
Lynnville-Sully (15-8) was led by Rachel Van Wyk with nine points, while Lysandra James and Lyndsay Terpstra had seven points apiece.
Colo-NESCO will host BGM (16-7) in Friday’s regional semifinals in Colo. The Bears defeated Montezuma 60-16 in their quarterfinal matchup and also defeated Lynnville-Sully twice during the regular season by an average of 10.5 points.
