Bartow’s career high drives Drake past MSU

DES MOINES – Freshman Ashley Bartow poured in a career-best 19 points and the Drake women’s basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 75-64 victory over Missouri State at the Knapp Center Saturday.

Along with Bartow’s fourth consecutive double-digit scoring effort, Kyndal Clark added 19 points and seven rebounds, while Carly Grenfell chipped in 10 points for the Bulldogs (8-16, 3-10), who snapped a four-game skid.

“I’m so proud of our team,” Drake coach Jennie Baranczyk said. “We needed this win and they stepped up. Ashley is playing tremendous for us right now and besides some foul trouble tonight, she didn’t look like a freshman out there.”

Missouri State (12-13, 4-9) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to play within two possessions for much of the second half but couldn’t draw closer than two points.

Kenzie Williams led the Lady Bears with 17 points and Christiana Shorter had 12.

Drake made four of its first six shots including a pair of threes to open a 10-0 lead. The Bulldogs shot 42.9 percent for the game while limiting Missouri State to 36 percent.

The Bulldogs begin a three-game road trip Thursday at Bradley with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
