Heather L. Ellis, 36

Heather Lynn Rathje Ellis, 36, formerly of Marshalltown, slipped quietly into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, after a brief battle with an aggressive brain tumor.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 11:30 AM, Saturday, February 23 at FBC Marshalltown (formerly First Baptist Church) with Pastor Dick Sipe officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, February 22, at the church.

Heather is survived by her loving husband of 14 years, Greg Ellis, originally of Minneapolis, her parents and siblings.

Born Heather Lynn Rathje on December 7, 1976, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Madlyn Rathje and Larry Rathje of Marshalltown; sister of Ryan Rathje of Fairfax, Virginia; Kendra Rathje of Marshalltown, and Tyler Rathje of Chicago, Illinois.

Heather greatly enjoyed her teen years in California, and she graduated from Canyon High School in Anaheim Hills, California. The family later returned to Marshalltown, where she attended Marshalltown Community College. On August 15, 1998, she was united in marriage to Greg Ellis at First Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Then in 1999 she earned her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa, in electronic media. The couple also lived in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa, and in Los Angeles, California, where Heather did some background acting for both TV and film. They moved to Indianapolis in 2011.

Heather loved their three dachshunds, was a gourmet cook, and became a connoisseur of all types and flavors of tea – even trading teas online.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Larry and Madlyn Rathje; brothers, Ryan and Tyler Rathje; sister, Kendra Rathje; father-in-law, Steve Ellis; mother-in-law, Joyce Ellis; sisters-in-law, Sharie Thoelke and Maryanne Doerfler, and their families; and many other friends and relatives.

In death she rejoined her grandfather Walter Rathje and grandfather Howard Temple.
