Bradley’s late surge buries Drake, 93-84

PEORIA, Ill. – The Bradley women’s basketball team closed the game on a 10-1 run to defeat Drake 93-84 on Thursday night in Missouri Valley Conference play at the Renaissance Center.

The two teams were knotted at 83-all at the 2-minute mark when Bradley’s Catie O’Leary put back an offensive rebound, and Des Moines native Shronda Butts scored a driving layup to put the Braves (11-13, 5-8) in front to stay.

Michelle Young had two of her career-high five steals down the stretch and the Braves made their free throws to hand Drake (8-17, 3-11) its fourth loss in its last five games.

Young and Katie Yohn both scored 18 points to lead the Braves. Butts, a Des Moines East graduate, had 16 points, O’Leary finished with 14 and Jenny Smith had 11 in the win.

Kyndal Clark netted a gmae-high 22 points to lead Drake. Morgan Reid had 19 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots but 10 of the Bulldogs’ 24 turnovers.

Liza Heap chipped in 12 points for Drake, which remains on the road to face Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls.
