Healthy Family Fair returns to mall Saturday

It’s becoming an annual tradition for families with young children to flock to the Marshall Town Center for the Healthy Family Fair.

The eighth annual community event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and will feature information, a free book, face painting, balloon artists, crafts, door prizes and entertainment.

There will also be special guests that are a hit with children including the Cat in the Hat, Dora the Explorer, Elmo and Papa Smurf. The event is free and open to the public and organized by several area agencies and businesses.

Booths will be set up to learn more about services and agencies in the community that help keep children safe, healthy and learning. It’s for families with children from prenatal through preschool.

“All of the agencies, services and opportunities in our community will be in one location,” said Laurie Gowdy, community awareness director with Child Abuse Prevention Services. “Also, there are fun activities.”

Gowdy said 25 of these groups have signed up for a booth at the event.

“Lots of the booths will not only have information but giveaways,” she said.

Many of the booths will be set up in the center of the mall with activities and entertainment spread out throughout the mall. The kid-friendly characters will also be roaming around the event and have a location to take photos with the children, Gowdy said.
