Shipley gains third straight all-GPAC 1st-team honor

SIOUX CITY – Briar Cliff senior forward Jake Shipley has been named to the all-Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball first team for the third year in a row.

Shipley, who was the GPAC Player of the Year as a junior, led the Chargers in scoring this season at 16.4 points per game. He also finished second on the team in blocked shots (10), was third in rebounding (149) and fourth in assists (45).

The two-time all-state selection from West Marshall finished with the sixth-best free-throw shooting percentage in all of NAIA Division II men’s basketball, going 91-for-106 (85.8 percent) at the line.

The 6-foot-8 swingman scored 20 points or more nine times this season, including a career-best 32-point performance in a 94-93, overtime loss to No. 7-ranked Northwestern College back in November.

Shipley was the GPAC’s fifth-leading scorer, and has been the Chargers’ top scorer each of the last three seasons. Briar Cliff finished the year with a 19-12 record, losing to eventual GPAC Tournament champion Dordt in the quarterfinals.
