Darryll attended the Marshalltown School system before enlisting with the United States Army during the Korean War period. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home to Marshalltown. He was united in marriage to Vanita Shank on July, 17, 1951, in Eldora, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Lori, Melissa and Mike. He will be remembered as a man who could fix anything, and was even nicknamed “Dewey do it all” by his friends.
Darryll and Vanita loved to go for a ride in their truck every evening.
Together they had the same route which traveled the Mormon Ridge area northwest of Marshalltown. Darryll and his family took many trips to Minnesota where they enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing the guitar. Most of all he loved spending time with his family.
