MACS to kick off capital campaign for school addition
The capital campaign for the new building addition for Marshalltown Area Catholic School is off to a good start, but efforts will be moved forward fast this weekend.
MACS is holding public presentations beginning Saturday and running through March 17 to give an update on the campaign and provide details for the proposed $2.9 million project. There is a goal to raise beyond the $2.9 million and then MACS would add office space to the project.
MACS has already raised $1.2 million though the major gifts solicitations phase, but now they are seeking the public’s help for its fundraising push.
MACS Principal Matt Herrick said there is excitement surrounding the campaign and the new building project.
“The amount of people asking when this (campaign) was coming makes us very positive,” Herrick said.
The school will add a 10,000-square-foot addition to its current site at St. Henry’s attendance center and demolish the St. Mary’s building. The current St. Henry’s school will also be remodeled. The move will put the entire school of pre-kindergarten through sixth on one site.
The St. Mary’s school building has been showing its age in recent years and will eventually be demolished.
Herrick said the committee in charge of leading the design of the project tried to get as much bang for their buck as they could.
“The building committee has gone to great effort to maximize every square inch of the building for educational purposes,” he said. “It is a very lean and fiscally responsible design.”
Herrick, the parish pastors and MACS volunteers will lead the public presentations, which start this weekend in English and next weekend in Spanish.
“There will be a real brief overview of the project and what it entails and what our goals are to finance it,” Herrick said.
The hourlong meetings will also have project designs on display as well as a time for questions. For more information about the campaign or to donate call MACS at 641-753-7977.
