‘Fight for Food’ to benefit House of Compassion

Mixed martial arts fighter Rick Glenn lives and trains in Milwaukee, but his heart remains in Marshalltown.

Tantamount for the 145-pound pugilist known as “The Gladiator” is giving back to the less fortunate at the House of Compassion as he trains for a March 23 bout at Revel Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

Glenn’s manager, Shaun White of Marshalltown, announced recently that “Team Glenn” – a group of Glenn’s fans and sponsors – have organized a fundraiser to benefit the local homeless shelter and soup kitchen.

“We at ‘Team Glenn’ are proud to pass on Rick’s personal wishes and urge all of his fans to support the HoC in this worthwhile effort,” White said. “We are in the process of placing donation containers at a variety of locations in the Marshalltown area. Rick is training hard, but he hasn’t forgotten about his home town.”

Online donations to the House of Compassion can be made on Glenn’s website, rickglennmma.com, his Facebook page or the House of Compassion Facebook page.

Additionally, donations can be mailed to or dropped off at the HoC, 211 W. Church St. Write “Fight for Food” on the check’s memo line.

Glenn’s match is part of the World Series of Fighting and will be televised on national television by NBC Sports at 9 p.m. CST.

“Team Glenn” will be at Marshalltown’s Rumors Bar & Grill, watching the fight, White said.

Glenn is 12-2-1 as a professional and has won 10 consecutive fights.

Karen Frowhein, House of Compassion director was impressed with White and supporters.

“White and his team are really fired-up about this fundraiser,” she said. “We are grateful that they thought of us and our clients.”

An average of 55 people are fed every evening, she said, and anyone who is hungry can eat in the soup kitchen.
