Local pair face forgery, identity theft charges

Two local men are charged with having perpetrated identity fraud for nearly nine years.

Police arrested Juan Mendoza, 45, and Jose Mendoza-Garcia, 27, at their home on Bromley Street Tuesday, said Lt. Ronald Ohrt, with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The men allegedly used another person’s social security information to obtain employment from 2003 to 2011, according to the police report.

Both men are charged with identity theft and forgery, both Class D felonies.

They made their initial appearances in court Wednesday, and are being held on $5,000 bond. Their preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. March 22.

Immigration Customs Enforcement put a hold on both men.

On Wednesday, Taylor Wagner, 805 Ratcliffe Dr., reported the theft of an iPhone while at 302 S. 2nd Ave. Estimated value of loss was $500.

On Tuesday, a person associated with Green Tone Enterprises, 1108 N. 3rd Ave., reported the theft of a 1999 Ford F250 pickup and a Western snowplow from the business. Estimated value of loss was $6,600.

On March 8, Kent Kroeger, 1500 Lincoln Towers #201, reported the theft of a Samsung Aviator. Estimated value of loss was $200.

On March 7, an unknown person reported from 602 E. Linn St., damage to a hollow core interior door by an out-of-control juvenile. Estimated value of damage was $150.


On Tuesday, Christopher Allen Wells, address unknown, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

On Tuesday, Jessica Ann Hartwig, of Melbourne, was arrested for trespass.

On Tuesday, Jon Richard Kernes Jr., of Liscomb, was arrested.

On Tuesday, Jose Alfredo Mendoza-Garcia, 1012 Bromley St., was arrested for forgery.

On March 7, Carl Clure, 1701 Fremont St., was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

On Aug. 30, 2012, Juan Manuel Mendoza, 1012 Bromley St., was arrested for forgery and identity theft.

On April 19, 2012, Jose Alfredo Mendoza-Garcia, 1012 Bromley St., was arrested for identity theft.


On Tuesday, a pickup driven by Jose A. Hernandez, 432 Union St., was southbound on South Sixth Street when it hit a patch of ice and went out of control striking the curb and doing damage to the rear passenger side wheel. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Hernandez pickup was estimated at $2,000.

On Tuesday, a vehicle driven by Timothy Norman Pitts, 311 N. 11th Ave., was parked on the north side in the 100 block of West Main Street when it attempted to exit the spot and collided with a legally parked car positioned behind. No injuries were reported. Pitts was cited for no insurance, striking unattended vehicle and failure to have a valid driver’s license. Damage to the legally parked car was estimated at $1,500.

On Monday, a car driven by Jose I. Gutierrez-Rodriguez, 1904 W. State St., was eastbound on Lincoln Street at the intersection with North Third Avenue when it went through the stop sign and collided broadside with a car driven by Sara Holtsclaw, 509 1/2 N. 3rd St., which was traveling south on Third Avenue. Holtsclaw was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with possible injuries. Gutierrez-Rodriguez was cited for failure to obey a stop or yield sign and no insurance. Damage to the Gutierrez-Rodriguez car was estimated at $4,000 while the Holtsclaw car received an estimated $4,500 in damage.

On Saturday, a vehicle driven by Arturo Gutierrez-Andrade, 1707 E. Nevada St., was northbound on South Center Street when it went through a red light at the intersection with Merle Hibbs and collided with car driven by Bethany Michelle Burkemper, 1002 W. Main St., which was traveling east on Merle Hibbs. No injuries were reported. Gutierrez-Andrade was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Damage to the Gutierrez-Andrade vehicle was estimated at $4,000 while the Burkemper car received an estimated $8,000 in damage.

On Sunday, Donnae Elsie Wanatee, of Tama, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-second offense, no driver’s license and failure to obey a stop sign.

On Saturday, Joshua Bolhot Arcelo, 105 N. 12th Ave., was arrested for probation violation.

On Friday, Jessie Pryce Calvert, of Montour, was arrested on a Marshalltown Police Department warrant charging him with harassment-first degree.
