County network director hopes for MPD, Sheriff’s Office records collaboration

The head of computer networking systems for Marshall County hopes to one day be able to manage the records of the Marshalltown Police Department and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office on the same system.

Scott Williams said during a board of supervisors meeting Tuesday it would allow for more seamless work between the two departments. The sheriff’s office has recently issued a request for proposals for a new records management system. The ability to be able to work together with the same format would allow for easier access to records for both agencies.

“We share a lot more information between these two agencies than we ever have,” Williams said.

The supervisors seemed open to the idea of getting the police and sheriff’s department on the same page.

“Sounds to me that this is something we should bring up at our next city-county meeting,” said Supervisors Chair Dave Thompson.

In other discussion, Williams said the county is in the process of changing phone service providers from Windstream to Heart of Iowa Communications. The county deals with 1,400 calls a day on its telephone system.
