Police break up underage drinking party
Increased patrol helped Marshalltown Police break up a party where 22 underage people were drinking alcohol.
Just after midnight Saturday, police became aware of a party at 1206 S. Second St. The residents, father and son J.J. Allen, 56, and Chris Allen, 20, refused to open the door when police knocked, said Sgt. Rick Lang, with the MPD.
Because of increased weekend patrols funded by a Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa (SATUCI) grant, additional plainclothes cops helped surround the home, preventing anyone from leaving, while other officers applied for a search warrant.
When police returned with the warrant, they knocked again, Lang said.
“They didn’t want to come out the second time around, so (police) did go through the door,” he said.
Lang said several people at the party were not charged because they had not been drinking.
Police charged 19 partygoers between 18 and 20 and two juveniles with possession of alcohol under age. They charged the Allens with social host ordinance violation. All the charges are simple misdemeanors. Police released the juveniles to their parents and transported to the others to the Marshall County Jail.
