Dorothy Zednichek, 94, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away, Friday, March 22, 2013, surrounded by her family and under the care of Iowa River Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice or Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. Dorothy Mae Calderwood was born on October 25, 1918 in Crawford County; she was the eldest daughter of Seth W. and Hattie M. (Macumber) Calderwood. Dorothy attended schools in Crawford and Carroll Counties and graduated in 1936, she then moved to Marshalltown in 1937 and attended school at Evangelical Deaconess Nursing School graduating in 1940 and worked as a staff nurse for 1 year and later worked in the OB department for 3 years. On June 8, 1941 Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert L. Zednichek in Marshalltown, Iowa. To this union 4 children were born: Beverly, Larry, Carol, James. Dorothy was a member of Central Christian Church and was in involved in many capacities and project in the church. She enjoyed quilting for her family and made quilts for unwed mothers to be, and a volunteer at the Caring Center.
Left to cherish her memory is her children: Beverly (Gary) Waddell of Paris, Tennessee; Larry (Jane) Zednichek of Conrad, Iowa; Carol (Jim) Adkins of State Center, Iowa; James (Carmen) Zednichek of Marshalltown, Iowa. Grandchildren: Mike and Bill Waddell of Paris, Tennessee; Clayton (Andrea) Zednichek of Princeton , Minnesota; Tracey(David) Berendes of Gladbrook, Iowa; Lori(Mark)Vajgrt of Marshalltown, Iowa; A.J.(Mindy) Davis of Charleston, Indiana; Bob(Brandi) Zednichek of Marshalltown, Iowa; Christina Zednichek (Travis Laffoon) of Garwin, Iowa; Jamie (Katie) Adkins of Marshalltown, Iowa. Great-grandchildren; Amber, Marissa and Haleigh Berendes; Ethan and Dalton Zednichek; Lauren Davis and little brother to be. Kaden, Trey, Peyton, and Gavin Laffoon. Step-grand-children; Laurie (Chuck) Springer; Larry (Lori) Stabenow; Scott (Serina) Stabenow. Step-great-grandchildren; Ashley (William) Law; Allyson Stabenow; Mariah Turnball, Shanna Flores; Josephine Stabenow; Collin Crumrine and Samantha Springer, and a sister, Bethyl Plendl.
In death Dorothy rejoins her parents: Seth and Hattie; her husband Robert, a great-grandson; Thomas James Zednichek, and her siblings and spouses; Wayne (Bonnie) Calderwood, Ada (Robert) Phillips and Lloyd Calderwood.
