Additional information released on restaurant fire

The Marshalltown Fire Department has released more information on the Sunday night fire at the China Buffet, 2500 S. Center St.

Crews responded at 8:37 p.m. and found smoke coming from the eaves and vents. The fire was above the drop ceiling and into the rafter system of the roof. It was quickly put out but firefighters remained on the scene addressing hot spots. The department was on the scene for 2.5 hours. No injuries were reported and the damage to the building was estimated at $60,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
