Raising awareness about child abuse prevention
This month, Child Abuse Prevention Services is participating in the nationally recognized Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month focuses on educating people about the importance of child abuse prevention.
By helping parents manage stress, learn parenting skills and access resources, children are more likely to grow up in safe, nurturing and healthy environments needed to thrive. As a result, our community will be stronger as more children are empowered to reach their full potential as adults.
Child Abuse Prevention Services works to prevent child abuse in Marshall County and the surrounding area by providing the Building Healthy Families program, Crisis Child Care, sexual abuse prevention education for preschool and elementary students, and managing the Stork’s Nest store.
This April, Child Abuse Prevention Services will observe Child Abuse Prevention Month with public awareness and educational activities including the return of the “blue kids” around town, a Stand Up For Children Comedy Night at the Orpheum Theater on April 25, and a rally at the courthouse at noon April 26. There will be a variety of other events and activities, all featuring the color blue, which is the color associated with child abuse prevention efforts.
I hope you will participate in these events and activities, and in doing so, will think about the importance of child abuse prevention.
