Bobcat boys blank Cards in net debut

NEWTON – The Marshalltown boys tennis team had no trouble in its opening match of the season Tuesday.

The Bobcats surrendered just 13 games in 11 matches against Newton and blasted the Cardinals 11-0 in the season opener.

Ryan Shomo, Kalei Platt and Ben Anzis all won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0, while Drayton Lents and Jameson Eberline dropped just one game each in their singles wins. Adam Podhasky won his match 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles, the Bobcats were not quite as dominant but still did not surrender a set. Tyler Ashby and Kade Vopava had the easiest time, winning their No. 5 doubles match 6-0, 6-0.

Marshalltown next plays Thursday in the home opener against Saydel. The dual begins at 4:15 p.m. at the MHS tennis courts.
