‘Best Week Ever’ comedian coming to MCC Thursday

You might recognize a comedian coming to Marshalltown Community College from somewhere – since he’s been all over the television in recent years.

Pete Lee will perform a free show open to the public at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Student Union at MCC.

Lee is currently featured on the VH1 show “Best Week Ever,” which airs on Friday nights. He has done previous small screen work on “Last Comic Standing,” “As the World Turns” and on a few Comedy Central specials.

Lee was raised in Janesville, Wis.. and currently lives in New York City. Lee said his live comedy act will not try to poke fun at the audience, as he spends most of the time making fun of himself and his friendly Midwestern demeanor.

“A lot of my show is about navigating this world as a friendly person,” Lee said. “I completely roast myself for being this friendly, pushover guy.”

As a native of the Midwest, he loves to perform for crowds in the heartland and looks forward to his performance in Marshalltown.

“People in the Midwest are fun people,” he said.

Prior to arriving in Marshalltown, Lee will perform his stand-up act on the “Late Show with David Letterman” Tuesday night. Lee said landing the upcoming Letterman performance is a dream come true.

“I ran around the house when I found out,” Lee said. “Letterman is one of my heroes.”

Being a regular performer and writer on the second incarnation of “Best Week Ever” has been a blast for Lee.

“I was a huge fan of the show, so when I heard it was coming back I had to audition,” Lee said.

Lee was encouraged to get into comedy by his friends, and once he did it, he was hooked.

“The feeling you get when you make a crowd laugh and that energy rains over you, it’s addictive,” Lee said.

Thursday’s hour-long show is recommended for college age visitors and older.
