All-Region XI honors for MCC’s Van Metre, Gott

Helping start the rebuilding process of the Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball program, a pair of Tigers were recognized for their efforts.

Mady Van Metre and Mackenzie Gott were both named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference 2012-13 Women’s Basketball Division II all-region Team.

Van Metre, a sophomore guard, earned a spot on the first team, while Gott, a freshman forward, made the second team.

A Marshalltown native and former Bobcat, Van Metre led the Tigers in scoring at 13.3 points per game seventh in the league. The Ames High grad and Iowa Western CC transfer also finished third on MCC with 5.2 rebounds per outing and scored in double figures 20 times this season.

Gott was second in the conference in rebounding at 9.9 boards per contest, while finishing second on the team in scoring (10.8 ppg). The Oskaloosa native scored a career-best 23 points against Southwestern Community College on the road Feb. 23.

The Tigers finished 11-20 overall and 6-11 in division play in coach Alison Lacey’s first full season at the helm.
