Former WM wrestler Kelber inducted into wrestling hall

CRESCO – Former West Marshall wrestler Jason Kelber was a three-time state champion and one-time state runner-up for the Trojans back in 1983-86.

Monday, Kelber was inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame at the Cresco Country Club in the 44th annual Awards Banquet and Induction Ceremony.

Joining Kelber as the 105th, 106th, 107th and 108th members of the wrestling hall of fame were David Ripley of Charles City, Tolly Thompson of Janesville and Robert Kenny of Mason City.

Kelber went undefeated in his final three seasons at West Marshall and finished his high school career with a record of 123-3 competing at 98, 105, 105 and 119 pounds in those seasons.

He also wrestled at the University of Nebraska where he was a three-time all-American. He was considered to have one of the best careers in Nebraska wrestling history and capped his career with a 126-pound championship in 1991. He was second at 126 in 1990 and sixth in 1989.

Kelber ranked third on the all-time Nebraska wins list with a career record of 123-30 and also is third in Nebraska history with 59 dual victories and fifth with 47 pins.
