Experienced Tigers take 11 from ’Cats

Games were hard to come by for the Marshalltown girls’ tennis team, which suffered an 11-0 defeat at the hands of West Des Moines Valley on Tuesday at the MHS tennis courts.

The Bobcats (0-2) were swept in all 11 matches, with Megan Rachuy’s loss at No. 3 singles the most competitive of the bunch.

Valley took all 10 junior varsity matches as well.

Rachuy was defeated 7-5, 6-3 by Valley junior Chloe Stewart. Rachuy was the only MHS singles player to score three games in any set.

Valley’s reigning fourth-place doubles team of Jenni Aldrich and Lucy Korsakov saw an early challenge from Marshalltown’s top tandem of Rachel Faircloth and Maggie Kelehan, but the Tigers took the sweep, 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 4 doubles, Samantha Tocheri and Ellen Podhajsky picked up five games total in a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Valley’s Lauren Hoffart and Brooke Beaty.

The Bobcats have a week to ready themselves for their next match, an April 16 dual at Des Moines Hoover. MHS returns home April 18 to face Southeast Polk.
