MHS track getting sent east for state track qualifier
The Marshalltown High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams will not have to compete with squads from the Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML) in their state qualifier district and regional meets.
Instead, the Bobcats will be sent east to Linn-Mar High School and will compete against all five Cedar Rapids schools as well as Iowa City High and the host Lions.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union made the announcements on their respective websites Tuesday.
The Bobcats’ state qualifier is the Class 4A/5A District 4 meet.
Every state-qualifying meet will take place May 9 and begin at 4 p.m.
The other 12 area schools also were given their state qualifier assignments.
In Class 1A, Grundy Center will be the host school for District 5 and also will feature Gladbrook-Reinbeck, AGWSR and BCLUW along with Clarksville, Dunkerton, Janesville, Jesup, Tripoli, North Butler, Valley Lutheran, Wapsie Valley and Waterloo Christian.
The other Class 1A area teams will head to Belle Plaine. That includes Colo-NESCO, GMG, North Tama and Meskwaki Settlement School. The District 1 state qualifier also will feature host Belle Plaine, Central City, Don Bosco, HLV (Victor), Iowa Valley, Lisbon, Midland (Wyoming), North-Linn and Springville.
The South Tama County Trojans will head down the highway to Grinnell for its Class 3A District 3 state qualifier. Also competing in Grinnell is the host Tigers as well as Solon, Pella, Oskaloosa, Williamsburg, Union and Benton Community.
The final state qualifier involving area teams will be in Class 2A District 5 at Ogden. West Marshall, East Marshall and South Hardin will compete for state berths against each other as well as Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, Des Moines Christian, North Polk, Panorama, Roland-Story, South Central Calhoun, South Hamilton, West Central Valley and host Ogden.
