Local woman strikes boyfriend in head with hammer

A domestic dispute became violent Monday night when a local woman allegedly hit her boyfriend in the head with a hammer.

Larinda Fouts, 27, of Marshalltown, faces felony domestic assault charges following a dispute with the victim at her home at 711 E. Linn St.

Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper said the attack injured the victim but that preliminary reports did not indicate whether he sought medical attention for those injuries.

Fouts made her initial appearance in court Tuesday where the court issued a no-contact order for the victim and held her in contempt of court for violating a no-contact order already in place.

Fouts is being held on $5,000 cash only bond. Three prior convictions for domestic assault enhanced the charge to a Class D felony.
