New principal named at BCLUW Elementary
CONRAD – Mitch Parker has been named the next principal at BCLUW Elementary School. He will replace the retiring Diane Petty beginning July 1.
Parker, 34, is currently a teacher and elementary dean of students for the Pocahontas Area Community School District. He is also the head wrestling coach and an assistant football and track coach at the high school. He has worked in the district for 10 years.
The native of Manchester said he was really impressed with the academic reputation, school leadership, community support and the facilities in the BCLUW district.
“It’s a highly sought-after district,” Parker said. “It’s a very progressive district.”
He plans to move to Conrad with his wife Cami and their 7-year-old son, Grant. Cami is originally from Parkersburg, so it will bring them closer to relatives.
He said his leadership style at BCLUW will focus on the positive.
“It’s really important to be positive and focus on the good things,” Parker said.
Even though he has been actively involved in coaching varsity athletics at Pocahontas, he has no plans to take on similar roles at BCLUW.
“At this point I want to focus on doing a great job at the elementary,” he said.
BCLUW Superintendent Ben Petty is happy with this hire for the district.
“I think Mitch will be a great fit at BCLUW elementary. He has a lot of leadership experience in working on building-level and district-level leadership teams,” Petty said. “Mitch has been very involved in his school and community, as he plans to be at BCLUW, and I’m sure this will help him to quickly start building relationships with students, staff and our community.”
Parker’s annual salary at BCLUW will be $71,000.
