Crash kills Tama man, injures another

A two-vehicle collision in Tama killed one man and injured another early Thursday morning.

According to an Iowa State Patrol accident report, Elton Roberts, 38, of Tama, was heading south on F Avenue when he crossed the path of a semi-tractor trailer traveling along Highway 30 at 2:40 a.m.

The semi, driven by Michael Barney, 49, of La Porte City, smashed into the passenger side of Roberts’s Buick Century.

The crash killed Roberts and injured Barney. Tama County ambulance transported Barney to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The report shows that Barney was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, which saved his life. Roberts was not wearing a seatbelt. No further details were available at press time. The crash remains under investigation
