Doris Louise Zink was born on the family farm on March 31, 1926, the daughter of Samuel E. & Edna Marie (Lane) Zink in rural Green Mountain. She was the third youngest of eight children. She grew up in the Green Mountain area and attended their school system. At the early age of 15, Doris learned the art of being a caregiver. When her mother Edna suddenly passed away, she quit school to help care for her younger siblings. Doris met her husband, Mahlon “Bud” Weller at The Riverview Roller Skating Rink. They married on June 12, 1948 and they made their home in the rural Marshalltown area. They were blessed with four daughters during their marriage; Connie (Vern) Gage, Holiday Lake; Mona (Neil) Garlock, Mendota Heights, MN, Linda (James) Hinmon and Jennifer (Brian) Johnson, Marshalltown. Doris was a homemaker initially and later worked at Piggly Wiggly, Clifton’s and Smitty’s grocery stores, the Marshalltown School District, and Caldwell Meat Company retiring from there in 1985. Doris loved playing 500, watching Iowa Hawkeye basketball, traveling, ice cream, M&Ms, and Elvis. Most of all, Doris treasured her family and enjoyed their many get-togethers.
