Doris C. Fricke, 96, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehab, in Marshalltown while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, in Marshalltown. Pastor Fred Berry will officiate. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until the time of the services at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, in Marshalltown. Online condolences may be sent to

Doris Monroe was born April 2, 1917, the daughter of Harry and Marie Wildman Monroe and grew up on a farm in the Van Cleave area. She married Adelbert Fricke on Nov. 21, 1934. Doris and her husband farmed south of State Center and Doris worked with the hot lunch program in the State Center schools and assisted with 4-H programs until moving to Marshalltown in 1966. Doris was employed by Cooper Mfg. until her retirement. She enjoyed baking and won many ribbons at the county and state fairs. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the Senior Center and playing bingo. Doris was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclones. She was a member of Unit #46 American Legion Auxiliary and Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Doris is survived by her children: Marilyn (Gary) Paulsen, of Papillion, Neb.; Barbara (Donald) Blake, of Marshalltown; Carl Fricke and the late Wanda Fricke, of Bensalem, Pa.; Carol (Paul) Sells, of Grundy Center, and Virginia (John) Hahn, of Smyrna, Tenn.; one sister Lorraine Porter, of Hampton; grandchildren: Tom, David and Linda Blake, Cathy Vergauwen, Greg Beem, Allan Hahn and Miriam Kindley, Steven Paulsen, Kim Neumann, Barry Fricke, Chris Fricke and Pam Sullivan and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and her parents, two brothers: Ashley Monroe and James Monroe and sister Maxine Mitchell. Memorials may be directed to the family.
