Central Iowa Steel Guitar Show set for May 5

Once again by popular demand, Vic and Deb Switzer, of Liscomb, will be hosting the Fourth annual Central Iowa Steel Guitar Show, Country Jamboree, and Dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 201 High St. in Marshalltown on May 5.

The show starts at 11 a.m. and ends around 6 p.m. There will be food and drink on site so that people don’t have to leave and miss any of the music.

The organizers are proud to have some of the finest pedal steel guitar pickers and backup musicians from Iowa and Illinois at the event. There is no cover charge to get in to this event. Donations will be accepted to help offset the show’s expenses.

The Switzers wanted to put on a professional show featuring the pedal steel guitar that a lot of people probably are not familiar with but have heard over the years on many country hits on the radio from the likes of, Charlie Pride, Ronnie Milsap, Merle Haggard and many more.

Some of the players are Chad Burgess, of Ames; Vic Switzer, of Liscomb; Darwin “Lefty” Schrage, of West Union; Dan Hedland, of Hedrick; Bob Frederick, of Morrison, Ill; and Bob Harms, of Des Moines; Roger Miller and jump start students from the North East Iowa Steel Guitar Show held in October

“We would like to say thanks to John and Mildred Stubbs, of Marshalltown, who helped us a lot getting this going. Marty Hardon, of Tama, for supplying drums and being house drummer. My brother Van Switzer, of Conrad, for helping with the sound. Lefty Schrage for supplying us with information. KC Hall of Marshalltown. Jim Healy, of Liscomb. Bonnie Davis, of Liscomb, for all the baked goods. Joni and Mark Ernst, of California. Cody Switzer, of Parkersburg. And above all I would like to thank my wife Deb who I couldn’t have done it without her doing a lot of work with staging, food preparation, and taking pictures.”
