Resides: Marshalltown. I previously lived in Des Moines and Bettendorf.

Hometown: Marshalltown. Marshalltown High School class of 1983.

Family: Spouse is Joe Hannam and we have three children; Matthew, Raechel and Olivia.

Pet: One spoiled dog named Tollie.

Hobbies and interests: I love to cook and travel.

Occupation: Weight loss coach with Marshalltown OB/GYN’s Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method. Our office is next to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center’s main entrance.

What that means: We provide a medically-designed and professionally supervised wellness protocol supervised by healthcare professionals. It is a fat-targeting weight loss program. This effort has a beginning and an end where we not only take the weight off and make one healthy; we show one the simple keys to keeping it off.

Tenure: Almost two years.

Best part of job: I don’t think I can give a description of how uplifting it is to help and encourage people in their weight loss journey. To see an individual become healthy, and gain self-control over their eating habits is about as good as it gets. There is no better feeling then to help and encourage my clients. I am a cheerleader for them and they become my family.

Book: I have never been a book reader. I love periodicals including the Times-Republican. I read it every morning.

Movie: “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” directed by Donald Petrie – it is so funny!

Foods: Outside of being a pizza junkie, I really like meat and vegetables.

Sports: MHS Bobcats

Best part of living here: I grew up in Marshalltown, so it has a special place in my heart. I love the people and the diversity. There are so many areas in which one can volunteer and really get to know people. I think Marshalltown is just the right size. It offers just about everything a person needs. If Marshalltown doesn’t have it, one certainly do not have to drive far to find it.

Most influential persons: My parents gave me many gifts and for that I am thankful, but aunt Peggy Buchwald has always been a positive influence to me. She is a Christian role model and a great example of a wife and mother.

Advice on life: Community service brings quality to my life. The late Mother Teresa wrote: “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” Get out and volunteer, help those in need, it is truly rewarding.
