SPORTS SHORTS: Spartan boys fifth at Columbus Invite

WATERLOO – The Grundy Center boys’ golf team finished fifth out of seven teams at the Waterloo Columbus Invitational on Saturday at Gates Park Golf Course.

The Spartans shot a 356 team total and finished ahead of New Hampton (363) and Waterloo Christian (443). Waterloo Columbus, led by medalist Jack Conway’s 1-under-par round of 71, won the team trophy with a 313.

West Delaware (322) was second, Independence (34) was third and Waverly-Shell Rock (346) fourth.

Grundy Center was led by Elliott Eggleston’s round of 83. Lane Bangasser shot an 88, Ryon Appel had a 92 and Nick Saak 93.

Info meeting for 8th-grade softballers

Any 8th-grade girls interested in playing Marshalltown High School softball and their parents must attend an informational meeting at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Roundhouse.

Bobcat boys hoops camp announced

The Bobcat Boys Basketball Camp is set for June 11-14 for boys entering grades 5-12 in the fall. The camp will be held at the Roundhouse and divided into two age groups.

Scott Smith and the Marshalltown High School boys’ basketball coaching staff, AGWSR assistant Jason Berkey, and other Bobcat staff and former players will direct the camp. Contact Coach Smith (641-754-1130 ext. 1232) for registration information.
