Local man charged with battering ex
Police arrested a local man for allegedly leveling an attack on his ex-girlfriend that hospitalized her Thursday night.
Bryan Lolwing, 46, Marshalltown, faces charges of willful injury, a Class D felony, and aggravated domestic assault, an aggravated misdemeanor, after he attacked the woman at his home on the 200 block of North Fifth Avenue, said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
The attack occurred after the woman brought Lolwing home from a local bar, Hanken said. According to the police report, the two lived together until the end of March. Once the two got inside the home, Lolwing’s demeanor changed, and he pinned the woman to the ground, repeatedly punched her in the face and slammed her head on the floor multiple times, according to the report.
Hanken said both the victim and Lolwing fled the scene after the assault. Police arrived at a child care facility on the 500 block of Fremont Street shortly after the attack, where they found the victim covered in blood in the bathroom. Emergency medical specialists transported the victim to the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center emergency room. There, doctors treated her for blood in her ear canal and a broken arm before releasing her.
Not long after, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lolwing for driving while intoxicated, and the MPD subsequently booked him for the two assault charges.
Lolwing made his initial appearance in court Friday. The court assigned him a public defender and ordered him to complete a substance abuse evaluation within 60 days following his release and submit the results to the court. The court also ordered Lolwing to relinquish any firearms in his possession to the sheriff’s office within seven days.
The judge issued a no-contact order for the victim and set Lolwing’s bond at $11,000. His preliminary hearing is set for May 13.
