G-R School Board starts superintendent search
After five years of leading the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School District as superintendent, Tim Kuehl will take another job leading the Clear Creek Amana School District.
The G-R School Board will now move forward, looking to replace Kuehl. Board President Matt Wyatt said they have an aggressive timeframe to hire the next leader, with hopes to make an offer on the position by the end of May.
“It may be a challenge, but we believe our school district is in a great place right now,” Wyatt said. “We still think there should be a good pool of candidates.”
The board has hired G. Tryon and Associates, a superintendent search firm from Johnston, to help with the search.
Applications for the job are due by May 13 with the board expecting to interview four candidates on May 23. The board will then select two finalists who will meet the staff and community on May 29.
Wyatt said they will look for several qualities in the next superintendent including a commitment to student achievement, good communication skills with the community and a plan for the future.
The members realize this is one of their most important jobs as part of the school board.
“This is to make sure we’ve got good leadership in the future,” Wyatt said.
Since the search is so late in the school year, there is a possibility a permanent candidate will not be hired and an interim superintendent will be needed for one year.
“We’re not going to settle,” Wyatt said. “We want somebody we believe will do a great job.”
Wyatt said Kuehl did a great job as superintendent and had a good relationship with the board.
“We are sorry to see him go,” Wyatt said.
