Wynette museum backers hope for money from state

TREMONT, Miss. – Officials in northeast Mississippi are hoping for financial help from the state to build the Tammy Wynette Museum in Tremont.

Wynette, a country music legend who died in 1998, is a native of the Tremont area in Itawamba County. She was married for six years to George Jones, who died April 26. They recorded several hit songs together.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/120J1y4) that money for the museum was included in the Mississippi House’s version of a multimillion dollar bond bills but never made it into the final bill signed recently by Gov. Phil Bryant.

Mayor Glyn Robinson says land has been acquired for the project. Robinson says Tremont would be an easy stopping-off point for music fans headed to Tupelo and Memphis.
