Contract approved for bridge replacement
The ongoing bridge replacement schedule in Marshall County continued with a new bridge contract approved by the board of supervisors during a meeting Tuesday.
The contract for $348,366 was approved from a bid put in by Peterson Contractors of Reinbeck to build a new bridge on 330th Street west of Gearhart Avenue, which is southwest of Melbourne
The 30-foot-by-110-foot concrete slab bridge will be paid for by state and federal funds. County Engineer Paul Geilenfeldt said the age of the current bridge at that location resulted in the need for its replacement.
“It’s just another one that we’re happy to cross off the list,” he said.
Work is expected on the project this summer and the bids came in near the estimated cost.
“I’m confident we’ve got the best price we can get,” Geilenfeldt said.
He also said the county has worked with Peterson Contractors in the past and has had good luck with the company.
In a discussion item, the county jail inspection results were shared at the meeting.
Supervisor Deane Adams called it a “pretty glowing report” from the department of corrections.
“Marshall County Jail is a very clean, well-managed and well-maintained facility,” the report indicated.
