Former Cyclone McGee arrested on theft charge

AMES – Former Iowa State Cyclone Tyrus McGee was arrested Tuesday, according to multiple Iowa media outlets.

McGee was picked up and charged with fourth degree theft after police said he stole money from a wallet left behind at a campus dining hall.

Aaron DeLashmutt, investigations captain for the ISU Department of Public Safety, said the police talked to McGee and the former Iowa State sharpshooter admitted to taking more than $200 from the wallet. DeLashmutt also said the police recovered about $160.

McGee was taken to the Story County jail where he was released Wednesday morning. Fourth-degree theft is punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of $315.

McGee led all of Division I last year with a 46.4 shooting percentage from 3-point range. He was named the Big 12 Conference’s Sixth Man of the Year and averaged 13 points for ISU.
