SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcats set for intrasquad scrimmage

The Marshalltown High School varsity baseball team has scheduled a nine-inning intrasquad scrimmage for Friday night at 6 p.m. at the MHS diamond.

In the event of rain, the intrasquad game will be played Saturday at 3 p.m.

Top-two finishes for MHS tracksters

FORT DODGE – The Marshalltown freshmen took first place at the Central Iowa Conference’s Northern Division track and field meet Monday, while the Bobcat junior varsity came in second in the four-team event.

For the freshmen squad, Marshalltown had five event victories, three of which were relays. Seth Heinrichs captured an individual win on the track for MHS, taking the 400-meter dash in 56.17 seconds. Jacob Ramsey-Smith was first in the 110 high hurdles as well (19.74).

The 4×200 relay team of Joe Rebik, Luke Severson, Kyler Ladehoff and Aaron Hauser took first in 1:39.38, while the 4×400 foursome of Jack Greene, Jordan Banes, Heinrichs and Hauser was first in 3:46.48.

Marshalltown’s shuttle hurdle relay quartet of Sam Arneson, Ramsey-Smith, Banes and Dylan Whetstine also won.

Andrew Potter posted the JV team’s top finish, taking second in the 1,600 in 5:15.55. Teammate Trae Peterson was just back of him in third, in 5:17.10.

Jacoby Jay earned bronze in both the discus (108 feet, 2 inches) and the shot put (40-2).
