SPORTS SHORTS: Rebel boys withstand host Cadets

ALDEN – Chase Clark and Camden Kickbush each netted goals and the Class 1A No. 10 Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys soccer team held off Iowa Falls-Alden 2-1 on the road Monday.

Damon Dennis provided the Cadets (3-7-2) with their lone score en route to their fourth straight defeat.

The Rebels fired 11 shots on goal, while Austin Harris and Wyatt Swanson each tallied an assist. Josh Cooley made three saves in the net for G-R’s second straight win.

The Rebels (9-4) host Postville in the regular season finale Thursday.

Trojans net first goal in loss to PCM

MONROE – Using a different lineup, the South Tama County/East Marshall girls soccer team scored its first goal of the season, though it wasn’t enough in a 9-1 loss to PCM on the road Monday.

Trailing 6-0 at halftime, the Trojans (0-12) fell behind by two more goals early in the second half though an inspired effort set up their first score of the year in the 54th minute. Araceli Angle launched a free kick from 30 yards out off the far post to put STC/EM on the board for the first time this year.

PCM added its final goal in the 62nd minute.

The Trojans host Marshalltown (8-4) Friday at 4:30 p.m.
