No. 9 Rebels run rampant on Cedar Valley Christian

REINBECK – Chase Clark tallied two goals and the Class 1A No. 9-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ soccer team blanked Cedar Valley Christian 5-0 in Monday’s opening round of substate play.

The Rebels (10-5) defeated Cedar Valley Christian for the second time this season to advance to the substate semifinals against No. 11 Center Point-Urbana. The Stormin Pointers (8-6) defeated Postville 3-2 in their quarterfinal contest.

Camden Kickbush had a goal and an assist for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, while Dustin Dinsdale and Austin Harris also scored. Marco Barron notched an assist, while goalkeeper Josh Cooley had five saves for the Rebels.

Center Point-Urbana will host Gladbrook-Reinbeck at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Third-ranked Waterloo Columbus (12-2) hosts Denver (5-1) in the other semifinal, and the substate title game is Saturday at Columbus.

In Class 2A, South Tama’s postseason opener at Grinnell has been postponed from Monday to today at 5 p.m. The two teams met in their regular season finale last Thursday, with the Tigers winning a 5-0 contest. The winner will play Wednesday at No. 4 Norwalk.
