PREP BASEBALL: West Marshall makes good on Hudson’s free passes
HUDSON – West Marshall benefitted from seven hits and seven free passes issued by Hudson pitching to improve to 2-0, beating the host Pirates 9-5 on Thursday night in cross-NICL baseball.
Nolan Sinning went six innings on the mound for the win, allowing four runs – two earned – on three hits and six walks. He struck out nine.
Sinning also led West Marshall offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jared Riemenschneider was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases, while Garrett Goodwin had an RBI double and scored twice. Jared Johnson, who drove in the game-winner in the season-opener against Colo-NESCO, was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Trojans are back in action tonight with a game at Newton starting at 7:30 p.m.
North Tama 6, North Linn 5
TRAER – Huston Danker drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with his seventh-inning single, giving North Tama the walk-off win over North Linn, 6-5, on Thursday night.
Brody Hulme reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and Caden Stuart’s sacrifice bunt turned into a single that North Linn threw away. Both runners advanced into scoring position for Danker, who drove them home to overcome a 5-4 deficit.
Jacob Wrage scored the win in relief despite allowing the Lynx to go ahead on a wild pitch. He struck out one in two-thirds of an inning. Dalton Hulme struck out six over four innings as the starter, and Brody Hulme went 2 1/3 innings of relief.
North Tama shortstop Brent Billerbeck quelled a North Linn rally in the fourth with his diving stop on a grounder up the middle, turning an inning-ending double play to keep the Redhawks within 4-3.
The Redhawks take on Tripoli tonight in at 7 p.m. Iowa Star Conference clash in Traer.
